An American Lady's Pre-War Search for her Skelton Ancestors.

Alice Emmerson was the Niece of Stephen Emmerson, the Miners' Friend, of Hollybush Farm, Skelton. See previous page.
Alice was married to George Judson, who was the tenant of the Royal George in Skelton before the Second World War.
Stephen Emmerson's younger brother, William emigrated to the USA in the early 1800s. See webpage here. .
In February 1937 Alice began receiving letters from Bessie Edens, of Corsicana, Texas, who was a descendant of William and anxiously seeking information about her family background.
These letters have been preserved by Alice's son, Norman Judson, a native of Skelton, now living at Saltburn by Sea.
Norman has kindly allowed the website to show these scans.
The need to know that compels family researchers reaches the point of desperation in this American lady.
Family recollections are that she did visit Skelton and Alice gave her a guided tour.
