1/5th Bn, West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own).
Killed in action, on the 3rd of September 1916, aged 22.
Son of Frederick Dunn of 23 Charlotte St, New Skelton.

FAMILY:-
1901. Frank was aged 6 and living at 26 Richard St, North Skelton, N Yorks.
His father is a Widower, aged 46, and works as a Shot Firer in the Ironstone Mine. He was born in Necton, N Yorks.
Frank has an older brother, Alma B Dunn, aged 16, who is a Horsekeeper in the Mines. Born at Lingdale, N Yorks.
There was also an older sister Mabel, aged 12 at that time, born Skelton, and a brother Fred, aged 8, born North Skelton.
Fred also fought in the war as a sailor on HMS Princess Royal.
1911. Frank's father has remarried to Anne Marie, aged 45, born Skelton and is living at 23 Charlotte St, New Skelton. The family have moved out.

WAR SITUATION:-
The 1/5th Battalion of the West Yorkshire Regiment was part of West Riding Brigade, West Riding Division. and after landing at Boulogne on the 15th of April 1915 it became part of the 146th Brigade, 49th Division.
In 1915 it was involved in operations to the North of Arras, the Battle of Aubers Ridge.
The Division fought in the Battle of the Somme which was pursued with a series of British offensives lasting from July to the winter of 1916.
Frank's Medal Card has not been traced, but his low Battalion number suggests that he may have fought with his Battalion from their first going to France.
At the time Frank was killed the advance on the Somme had been halted with great attrition at the line shown on the map for September 15 and the British were building up for a further offensive, the Battle of Flers Courcelettes.
MEMORIAL:-
Frank has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, which bears the names of over 72,000 men who lost their lives in the Somme sector and have no known grave.
