Killed in action on the 14th February 1916.
Enlisted at Saltburn by Sea, N Yorks.
Resided in Servants Quarters at Skelton Castle as a Footman.

FAMILY:-
1901. George, aged 13, is living at 79 High St, North Collingham, Notts and working as a Stable Boy, Groom. He was born in Harby.
His Mother, Eliza, aged 40, is a Widow and also born Harby.
He has 2 brothers Percy, 15, who is a Pantry Boy, Domestic and Ronald aged 10. And a sister Kathleen, 3.
A Frank Harrison, a journeyman Tailor, aged 43 is entered as a "Boarder".
1911. George, age 24, is working as a Footman, [Domestic] at Skelton Castle, along with another 14 Servants.

WAR SITUATION:-
The 4th Yorks Battalion were part of the 150th Brigade, 50th (Northumbrian) Division.
George's Medal Card shows that he was a Volunteer for service in the War and went out to France on the 9th October 1915.
On the day George was killed the 4th Yorks Bn were defending the line at Hill 60 to the East of Ypres, when the Germans exploded a Mine underneath them killing and wounding many men.

MEMORIAL:-
Railway Dugouts Burial Ground [Transport Farm] is located 2 kilometres South East of Ypres and contains 2,459 burials, 430 of which have never been identified.
